THE COMMON REVIEW
The Common Review ran a large section of Joseph Epstein's "French Ambition and the Making of Democracy". I'd never read de Tocqueville, so I enjoyed this one.
In the illustration, I wanted to convey the ambiguity he felt about the United States, (and democracy), even as his host nation embraced him.
